About This Quote

Children are God’s or nature’s practical joke on couples—that which is produced by passion then proceeds to nearly kill it. If you are anything like me, this quote should make you laugh out loud. I love children and I know that they can be wonderful gifts. However, I have also seen the dark side of children.

As a young teen, I wanted a child more than anything in the world. I felt that I would be a better parent if I had a child of my own. When I finally got pregnant, my hopes soared even higher and I thought that my life would be complete.

Unfortunately, my wish was not granted and my child did not survive infancy. My life was devastated and I was left with a great deal of depression for many months after the loss of the baby. My depression didn't last long but it shortened my lifespan significantly enough that I am almost three years older than when I originally planned on retiring from nursing in order to raise a family.

As a result of that depression, my family life suffered greatly with the loss of my daughter and lost opportunities in raising another child in a loving environment. This quote really hit home with me in its description of what having a child is all about: Passion creates a wonderful feeling but passion nearly kills when it isn’t tempered by wisdom and love from the parents who know what they are doing when parenting children.
